Hong Kong Advertisement
Inkjet on fine art photo paper, 2010

The series photo is about light pollution and over-crowed consumerism and advertisements in Hong Kong. Consumerism advertisements could be found anywhere in Hong Kong, which means our life is surrounded by advertisements. During night time, Hong Kong is always lighted up by those advertisements, which made the name "Pearl of the East".

But do we need that much information? Why are we advised to consume at anytime? Do we still need the huge light boxes even during mid-night? Is it just because we are living inside the city for that? Why we have to build up the name of "Pearl of the East" basing on consumerism and light pollution? Those advertisements are kind of light pollution to the residents nearby, while I found that the content are meaningless to me.

Therefore I shoot those advertisements in Hong Kong with over-exposure technique in order to wash out all the information inside the advertisements. Due to the brightness of advertisements, I can over-exposure it in the environment easily. In someway, the advertisements washed out their information themselves.
